Scholarship organization continues to thrive in the South Windsor (CT) community!
About Us
South Windsor Dollars for Scholars began in September 1958, when six local residents came
together to raise scholarship funds for South Windsor students continuing their education
after high school. Originally formed as the South Windsor College Scholarship Organization,
the group set out to support students in a way that would have a lasting impact on the
community.
In 1964, the organization established a formal Board of Directors and elected officers to
guide its work, strengthening its role as a reliable source of scholarship support. Ten years
later, in April 1974, the Board voted unanimously to become the Citizens Scholarship
Foundation of South Windsor, adopting a scholarship selection process that emphasized
fairness and equal opportunity. As the years passed, the number of scholarships and the
range of students served continued to grow.
In 2009, the organization updated its name to reflect its relationship with the Dollars for
Scholars program of Scholarship America. That partnership remains an important part of
our work today. In April 2024, we celebrated 50 years of scholarship work as a member of the Scholarship America Organization.
We are proud of our long history in South Windsor and of the students we support each
year. South Windsor Dollars for Scholars, Inc. continues to focus on helping local students
take the next step toward their education.
